I’m happy that Obama has earned the people’s vote to be our next President.  I beleive he will bring about a change that this country needs.  He already has brought about a new world wide image of the United States – seeing the reactions in Australia, Nigeria, and everywhere from Tuesday night was amazing.

I commented the other day that there was little made in the days prior to the election about race and its impact of the vote.  Since the election, it is the foremost story out there.  And I think that is good!  The media exercised constraint appropriately prior to the election, and is now equally appropriately celebrating its significance.  I appluad our news agencies for this!

I am also happy to see how active President-elect Obama is already.  If he were able, I beleive he would be signing bills into law today.  As he names his transition team and staff, the coming days are really shaping the next four years for all of us.

Being as I often work from home these days, including today, I went to vote at 11a this morning.  I figured it would be shorter lines that time of day and I think I was right.  Only 1 person in front of me.  Ok, Ok, I live in a tiny tiny town with not enough of a population to make a line.  Whatever.  I stopped for a sandwich on my way back too, so my timing was impeccable.

More than anything, I’ll be glad that the television ads will finally end.  I know I’ve said this every year, and especially every other, and every four years with these more major elections – but the ads this year have been worse than usual.  Just short of blatant lies, I don’t think anything in the ads can be trusted.  And it’s a shame because many people base their voting decision purely on television and radio ads.  Without actually listening to the debates and interviews, it’s impossible to make an educated choice.  With the higher turn-outs of voters this year, I am actually somewhat concerned.  Are all these masses of extra voters making their choices emotionally instead of informed?  Though it does seem that the extra voters have brought about extra entheusiasm and information.  I’m not judging – just making observations really.

So all this commentary and you may be wondering whom I’ve voted for.  I don’t beleive one should publish such a decision.  Nor should it be asked.  It’s a personal opinion and entitled to be such.  But if you pay attention, you’ll probably be able to subtly figure out my general party preference…
